An estimated 715.1 million people tuned into the final in 2006 in Germany were Italy were crowned World Champions. Uruguay, Argentina and France have also won the cup and also England in 1966 but unfortunately there has been little success since then.
The next World Cup is to be held in South Africa during the summer of 2010 and the 2014 World Cup will be held in Brazil. Hopefully England will be victorious in their bid to host the World Cup 2018 for the first time since 1966.
Brazil are the most successful nation in the World Cup Finals have never missed a tournament and won it an impressive 5 times over its history.
The first ever World Cup was given to Uruguay in 1930 after the tournament was founded just four years earlier after the success of the football tournament during the Olympic games it was seen as a great idea to turn it into an event of it’s own. The host nation went on to win the tournament against Argentina in the final.
