| England have fighting chance to win World Cup 2018 | | 1/12/2010 | Englands World Cup 2018 hosting dream is looking more and more likely to becoming a reality after a strong close to the bid backed by the future King of England, Prince William, PM David Cameron and possibly the face of football David Beckham.
The three representatives of England have spent the week securing votes for the bid election that is set to be cast during the day tomorrow (Thursday 2nd December) in Zurich. The final announcement of who will host 2018 and also the 2022 World Cup will be released at 3pm GMT.
The bid has gone from strength to strength over the past few months despite the BBC controversally broadcasting a Panarama Special which focused on select members of the FIFA board. The show is set to have caused tensions but the hard work put in my David Beckham seems to have made many forget.
Sources say that the England Bid Team have confirmed at least 8 votes from board members. 12 votes are needed to win outright. Bookies are also putting their confidence in the England bid many having now made England favourites.
Contention comes from Russia and a joint bid from Spain and Portugal. Russian President Putin today announced his displeasure at tactics used to gain votes and decide not to make the trip to Zurich to back his countries bid. Spain and Portugal appear to now be England's biggest challenger.
